History

The birth of Tokyo Tech Alumni Association

May 1981 Tokyo Vocational School was established, and various organizations were formed among students and graduates.
1891 Formation of the "Chemical Engineering Society", a friendship group mainly for students of the Chemical Engineering Department.
1896 The "Mechanical Arts Society" was formed, consisting of students, staff and graduates of the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
1906 At the extra general meeting of the Society of Mechanical Engineering, it was decided to open the Society of Mechanical Engineering to graduates of other departments for further development and dissolution, and to name the Society the Kuramae Industrial Society, and the "Tokyo Tech Alumni Association" was established with Principal Seiichi Teshima as president. In the same year, the first issue of the "Kuramae Industrial Association Journal" was published, but instead of making it the first issue, it became the 50th issue, following in the footsteps of the "Mechanical Engineering Society Journal".

Tokyo Tech Alumni Associatoin becomes an incorporated association.

1918 The articles of Incorporation of Tokyo Tech Alumni Associatoin was approved by the General Assembly and it became an incorporated association approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce.

Until Promoted to University

Sep 1919 At the Nationwide Chapter Representative Assembly and the Extra General Assembly, a motion was passed to promote the alma mater to a college, and the entire association began a campaign to promote it.
1923 Although our alma mater was destroyed in the Great Kanto Earthquake, our office, which was spared the disaster, collected over 5,738 yen in condolence and relief money from 1,544 people nationwide and presented it to the affected members. We also collected books and specimens for teachers and students and donated them to our alma mater.
1929 The establishment of the Tokyo Tech was officially approved, and the Alumni Association and the student’s association co-hosted a celebration for the promotion of the university. In addition, the construction of the Kuramae Industrial Hall was decided at the general meeting.

Alma Mater Support Program and Kuramae Industrial Hall

1931 Construction of the Kuramae Industrial Hall was completed, and the Association’s office was moved to the building the following year.
1937 In order to raise funds for the 60th anniversary of the founding of our alma mater, he established the "Alma Mater Founding Memorial Association" and donated over 1.56 million yen to our alma mater. Subsequent fund-raising campaigns were held for the 70th, 80th, and 100th anniversaries of the alma mater's founding, resulting in the construction of the auditorium, gymnasium, research building, 80th anniversary conference room, and centennial hall. The funds were also used to start the International Exchange Foundation.
1991 The old building was demolished to make way for the new Kuramae Industrial Hall, which was completed in 1993. The new building was completed in 1993, but due to the prolonged economic recession, the building was sold in 2003.

The 100th Anniversary of the Tokyo Tech Alumni Association

2004 As a measure to strengthen support for our alma mater, which has started as a national university corporation, we have started proactive activities to promote fundraising for the Tokyo Tech Supporters' Association.
Feb 2006 A ceremony was held to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Tokyo Tech Alumni Association. As a commemorative event, a special symposium entitled "What We Should Be as Frontrunners of Science and Technology in the 21st Century" was held with the participation of Hideki Shirakawa, a member of the Society, as well as other Nobel laureates and persons of cultural merit.
1991 The old building was demolished to make way for the new Kuramae Industrial Hall, which was completed in 1993. The new building was completed in 1993, but due to the prolonged economic recession, the building was sold in 2003.
In addition, we have started the TTF joint project with our alma mater, and we are working together for the development of science and technology in the 21st century.

Completion of the Kuramae Industrial Hall and relocation of the Tokyo Tech Alumni Association Office

Mar 2009 Construction of the Tokyo Tech Kuramae Hall was completed on the Ookayama campus, and in May of the same year, the Tokyo Tech Alumni Association Office was relocated to the office on the fourth floor of the new hall and began operations.

Transition to a general incorporated association

1st Apr 2012 As a result of the reform of the public interest corporation system, we have shifted from a conventional incorporated association to a general incorporated association.

The 110th Anniversary of the Tokyo Tech Alumni Association

Mar 2016 The ceremony was held at Kuramae Hall to commemorate the 110th anniversary of the founding of the Tokyo Tech Alumni Association, and certificates of appreciation were presented to Masahiko Furukawa, Minoru Tanaka, Etsuhiko Shoyama, and Hisao Taki for their efforts as President of the Association over the past 10 years. A commemorative lecture was given by Professor Yoshinori Osumi and Professor Hideo Hosono, and a round-table discussion was held by Vice-Presidents Maruyama and Ando of Tokyo Tech, and Vice President Hashimoto and Secretary General Hombo of Tokyo Tech Alumni Association to discuss university reform at Tokyo Tech.  In addition, Kuramae Journal No. 1055 was expanded to include a special issue commemorating the 110th anniversary.
