講演1
  • Towards the development of a multi-purpose assistive robots and their possible applications
  • (Karlstad University, Sweden)
  • In industrialized countries, regional disparities in healthcare and welfare services, increased medical expense caused by aging societies and shortages of medical staff have become serious problems. In Sweden, it is expected that about 25% of Swedes population will be older than 65 years old by 2060. For this purpose, robot technology (RT) is expected to be an important key to find solutions to these problems. In particular, different walking-aid robots have been proposed during the last decades. However, dynamic physical support, the adaptability to the user/task needs, and the multipurpose design concept have been scarcely studied. In this presentation, the development of a multi-purpose human-friendly robot for assisting elderly persons as well as assisting care givers is introduced. On the other hand, the current development of a vision system for creating objective food intake reports with the eating aid Bestic will be introduced.

  • Jorge Solis is an Associate Professor of the Department of Engineering and Physics, Karlstad University, adjunct researcher at the Research Institute for Science and Engineering, Waseda University and visiting researcher at the Humanoid Robotics Institute, Waseda University. He received his B.S. degree in Electronics Systems from the Monterrey Institute of Technology (Mexico) in 1998 and the Ph.D. degree from the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna (Italy) in 2004. His research interests are in intelligent machines and automation, medical and assistive robots, humanoid robots and educational robots. He is author/co-author over 200 publications. He is member of IFToMM as well as IEEE Senior member.
講演2
  • The development of Bestic - an eating aid
  • Ann-Louise Sylvia Lindborg (Camanio Care AB, Sweden)
  • A short presentation of Camanio Care, a company operating in the care tech sector with products in robotics, assistive devices and quality management that focus on basic human needs. I have been responsible for the technical development of the eating aid Bestic for 13 years. Bestic is enabling people with mobility impairment in their arms or hands to eat independently. I will describe the thought behind it and how we have worked with users and tell you all about the bumpy road it has been to develop a mechatronic product in a small company as well as some lessons learned. Now we are participating in an exciting research project that has brought us here, I will briefly describe the work in the project.

  • Industrial PhD student at Mälardalen University (Sweden) since 1 Jan. 2017.
Subject: What usability criteria are important for elderly and weak individuals?
Development engineer at Camanio Care (previously known as Bestic) since 2004.
Master of Science in Automation and Mechatronics at Chalmers (Sweden) 1998-2004
During holidays under my studies I have been working in elderly care facilities and a home for disabled people. I have also worked in other sectors but my work in the care sector is important for my current work.
